The Skating Academy is where freestyle elements begin. Skaters will learn the basic jumps, spins and edgework involved in figure skating. With a progression of levels, the Academy can take skaters into double jumps, spin combinations and variations, and more complex edgework. The curriculum involved in the Academy Program is far more complex than that of the Learn to Skate program and may take longer to work through. Once skaters reach the Academy level, we recommend at least one extra practice day per week and taking a few private lessons to help navigate some of the more difficult elements. For a list of private instructors, please see our Skating Staff Guide

New Classes
The Academy Workshop is an extension of our Skating Academy levels 1-4. The Academy Workshop is extra time and space for skaters in our Academy program to work on the edges, spin and jump elements in their respective Academy level. It’s a perfect place to start for those who are brand new to Academy or for anyone interested in getting more structured practice. It is open to all levels of our Skating Academy. *Skaters must pass Academy Prep 2 before entering the Academy Workshop
Wednesdays, 6:20-6:50pm—coach TBD

all geared toward the Axel Jump. The class breaks down the mechanics of the jump; skaters will go through various on-ice exercises and drills, learn cross-functional skills and have an opportunity to get in some repetitions. One of the class days will be an off-ice class (in the gym) where skaters will get to learn a variety of off-ice movements and exercises, great for practicing various parts of the jump on the floor, at home, or as warm up exercises when training.

Academy - Jumps & Spins
Academy Jumps and Spins focusses on the movements and mechanics of jumping and spinning. This class is geared toward single jumps and basic position spins, giving the student an opportunity to get some extra class time on the more difficult elements in skating. It is a perfect complement to our more comprehensive Academy program and great for supplemental work on jump and spin techniques.
